Blog Ambition

Evil Xu and I had lunch today. We'd arranged to meet at the Stone Creek Grill (which for some reason, I always call "Cool River"), but when we got there, movers were putting all the furniture in a van. "I guess it's closed, huh?" I asked brightly. So we went to Celebrity Bakery instead, and sat among the young matrons. We felt so subversive.

One of the topics on our agenda was a way to work together creatively. Xu is very funny and a born columnist, so naturally, I suggested a blog. Noticing her horrified expression, I hastily explained that she wouldn't have to reveal her innermost secrets. It would be a PROFESSIONAL blog, with library-related stuff--what we're reading, interesting stuff we've found, and of course, our witty, world-weary observations on librarians and the library world. She agreed to give it a try.

Now we need a name. Our favorite, the Lipstick Librarian, is long taken (and done very well). So are the Rogue Librarian, the Warrior Librarian, the Shifted Librarian, and the Pernicious Librarian. Even the Bellydancing Librarian has a Web presence. So what's left?

At supper, Connie suggested "Book Bitches"--too, well, TOO. Later, over a margarita, she suggested "Top Shelf Librarians," which I kind of liked, and "The Reserved Librarian," which is a great pun but not very accurate for our extroverted selves. Ellen joined us for dessert and suggested "Librarians from Hell," which has merit and possibly truth, but might not pass the filters.

We're at an impasse here. Anyone have any other suggestions? No prize for the winner, but we WILL mention you in the blog. At least once.

Ok, they're not very good, but perhaps they'll inspire something better:

  • The Not-So-Reserved Librarian

  • Bibliology

  • Liber os (or liber onis; literally the face of books, but os implies an impudence to the countenance in question)

  • Psychobiblia

Wow! Thanks, everybody, for some truly original and excellent suggestions! I've just e-mailed Sue--I mean, Evil Xu--and anxiously await her input. Keep 'em coming!

I *love* "Outside of a Dog"! But the first person who says anything about "outside of the box" will have to be shot.

You have been warned!

We Have a Winner!

Okay, Xu has spoken! The blog will be called "Outside of a Dog"--thank you, [info]satyric for the winning entry. Because it's multiple words (and too many letters), our ID name is "LibrarianX." The blog is at www.livejournal.com/users/librarianx. Check it out!
